The association’s mission is to:

• Promote and enhance the competence and professionalism of all members of the legal management team,

• Improve the quality of management in law firms and other legal service organizations, and

• Represent professional legal management and managers to the legal community and to the community at large.

The primary resource for legal managers is the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA), which has supported the efforts of legal management since 1971. ALA is an international organization comprised of over 10,000 members in the United States and over 30 other countries.

Depending on the size of the law firm or legal department, ALA members’ responsibilities can range from directing the overall day-to-day operation of the organization to managing specific functional areas such as finance, technology, human resources, practice development, marketing and facilities.
